Mt. Hood Rush / Setting it up

Could we bring a mountain into the room?

Our snowboard started as a piece of plywood, a place for the phone, and a block underneath. Yours can start with a conversation: what would make leaning into a turn feel fun?

A few places to start ↓

A controller concept to spark an idea. Make it your own.

Sketch it. Try it. Change it.

There isn't one right way.

01

A plywood board

A grown-up can shape a sturdy piece of plywood, smooth its edges, and fix a short, narrow, low wooden block underneath the middle, parallel to the board’s length. Make it much shorter than the top deck, leaving generous overhang at both ends and space to tilt gently from side to side.

02

A phone at the center

Tape the phone securely, screen up, at the center of the board, between your feet. We made a recess for ours; you can explore a secure mounting idea of your own. Keep your feet clear of the phone.

03

Start with a small tilt

Try the phone’s side-to-side motion in your hands first. You can also explore how a board tilts while seated before standing on it. What changes when the movement is smaller?

Make room for the story

The room is part
of the game.

Point the nose of the board toward the game screen. Imagine a start line, choose your mountain crew, and make a clear space for gentle turns.

Try it before you play.

With a grown-up supporting the rider, test a small lean each way. Does the board stay in place? Does the phone move with it? Start low and keep the tilt small.

A grown-up must build and check the board, support the rider, and choose a stable, nonslip surface. Keep the block low and fixed in place. Stay on the floor; the jumps happen in the game.

02 / Play

Ready to see it work?

Bring a bigger screen and a companion phone.

  1. Open the game.

Use a desktop, laptop, or tablet. For a TV, connect a computer and open the game there.

  2. Connect your phone.

Scan the QR code on the game screen. Keep both screens open.

  3. Make it move.

Enable motion, secure the phone at the center, and hold the board level during calibration. Use gentle side-to-side tilts to steer.
